Jasmine Summers, Beyond the Frame 2018.
Exploring surroundings through digital media including photography and video, Jasmine captures parts of the world around her and destinations she travels to. The source of her work is created through observation of the everyday, including both our indoor and outdoor spaces. Also merging both together to think about how places and objects have connections to our daily lives. Jasmine likes to experiment turning her ideas into unexpected creations.
Using a variety of research around her, Jasmine does not like to limit herself but let the materials work with her through the process of coming up with projects. Jasmine’s work consists of changed imagery. The ability to see something in a way we may not be able to see before, a new perspective that adds a sense of uniqueness to her work. Jasmine invites people to view and engage with the work she produces. Most recent work explores pop art and advertising, looking at the way we promote healthy eating through surreal imagery.
Jasmine previous work changes the form of the image for example by where she has turned images upside and, on their side, to see how the public would react to seeing this imagery. Jasmine has looked at how humans interact with the environments around them through climate change and the effects this is having on the planet itself. Also, Jasmine, has experimented with glitching as a technique to amending the image, taking photos of locations people would recognise before. To do this, Jasmine has used the city of Lincoln and thought about the public and how they see the everyday world around them. Jasmine askes a lot of questions when creating the work for example, how would these people view it in several years or with a slight change? She then alters the work following the uncanny of what people would think when viewing something.
Jasmine recently had her work displayed in Haverhill Highstreet in 2021 and Had her work on the HaveYou Haverhill in 2020. Also a competition winner for Suffolk Libraries Out of this world art competition in 2019 and a Finalist in Beyond The Frame photography competition in 2018. Jasmine recently completed her Masters degree in Photography 2022 and her BA in Fine Art in 2021.
